Treating Self-Esteem Issues

by Michael Davis
Personal growth and development systems have been around for a while now- a while in this case meaning at least a century. Starting as far back as the late 1800's and early 1900's, it began in a more notable form under such names as psycho-analysis. In psycho-analysis, one would, under the guidance of a therapist,  go for years of analysis with the eventual goal that one would free ones self from that which was troubling by recognizing, understanding and in that recognition, have the means to move on.

Managing Stress

Treating Self Esteem This approach has helped many people, but, like with everything that has to do with the nature of intra and interpersonal relationships, it is the responsible thing to do to see that as people grow and develop and change, the systems that they operate and live in do so as well.

The concept of self-concept comes from a very internalized individualized representation that a person makes of themselves as a lone entity and cannot be experienced in the same way once the focus of attention shifts. In other words, if someone is thinking of themselves when in an interaction, then concepts such as "self-esteem" can be referenced. However, when someone's attention is truly outside of themselves, there is no "self" to consider. I mean this in a very specific way. When you consider a time when you were so engrossed in a project or activity that completely grabbed your attention, the fact is, unless you take your attention off that, there is no "you" to consider.  Yet you're still there.

Personal Growth Therapy

Taking this idea out into the world at larger... Methodologies and approaches to what we once called simply "mental health" are widely varied and new paradigms are emerging. One is centered around the realization that we all operate within a system, that we are in fact not as individual as we once thought we were. In the last century we have seen personal and social evolution grow at an explosive rate never before seen in the history of humankind. Nowadays, there are still therapists of course, but now practitioners and and systems for self liberation and realization have grown exponentially. One can find a life coach for personal development (or professional, relationship), you can listen to subliminal self-help audio tapes, CDs and watch videos to help with virtually any condition one can think of that one would like to change.

Self Help Publishing

With the explosive growth of the the Internet, help self publishing has become possible in ways never before imagined. A system has emerged which allows people to get ideas out into the world by putting up a web site, starting a blog, writing an e-book, getting books printed on demand as well as create home made videos and audio podcasts, just to name a few. Never before has the ability to get ideas out been so widely available. Self-esteem articles on self-help websites such as this are making it possible to help and be helped like never before. And we're just getting started.
